The theatrical BL anime "Doukyusei," released on February 20, started strong at No. 9 in the weekend ranking!

The BL anime "Doukyusei," which opened in theaters nationwide last week on Saturday, February 20, 2016, is off to a strong start.


Doukyusei" is a popular manga work written by Asumiko Nakamura, which has been serialized in the BL anthology comic magazine "OPERA" since 2006. It is a pure love story about boys in the throes of adolescence.

The anime version was released in 30 theaters nationwide on February 20 and received overwhelming support from female audiences, which accounted for more than 90% of the total, and drew 23,445 viewers and grossed 34,406,500 yen in the first two days of its first week. It ranked an impressive 9th in the weekend rankings. It also recorded the No. 1 screen average on Saturday and Sunday with 1,143,623 yen per screen. This was an unprecedented blockbuster start for a BL film.


The first day's stage greeting, which featured the original author Asumiko Nakamura, main cast members Kenji Nojima, Hiroshi Kamiya and Hideo Ishikawa, and surprise guest Kotaro Oshio, sold out as soon as tickets went on sale, and the odds of winning were more than 10 times the premier ticket price.
